On July 18th, Lindsay’s Voice presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to the Blood Center of WI to help cover the cost of adding people to the marrow donor registry (Be The Match) Todd Coleman of the Blood Center’s Marrow Donor Registry, who is so dedicated to growing the marrow donor registry, and coordinates marrow drives all over the State of WI, received the check on behalf of the Blood Center. Joining My Husband and I were Tony Navarre (2012 Trees of Hope WI Ambassador and Leukemia Survivor) and Laurie Freund (Lindsay’s Voice Board Member and Leukemia Survivor)
This led into the “Christmas in July – Blood Drive and Marrow Donor Registry Drive” at Hart Park in Wauwatosa on Wed July 24th. Again, Todd Coleman from the Blood Center, wonderful volunteers from the Blood Center and dozens of friends of Lindsay’s Voice came out to the Blood Drive to donate blood. The Blood supplies are critically low, and every donor is so important. In addition to the Blood Drive, there was the opportunity for people to join the Marrow donor registry. Again, wonderful people came down, spent about 10 minutes- getting a “cheek swab” and completing paperwork that could save a life in the future. A very special young woman, Heather Block, who is 19, and joined the Marrow Registry just over a year ago, was a match for a patient with Leukemia, donated stem cells that saved that person’s life-volunteered her time to be at the Donor Drive to explain the donation process to those that were curious or anxious. We are so Thankful for her help. Should anyone who could not make it to the donor drive last week, and you wish to donate blood or join the marrow registry, please call me. I have information about additional blood and marrow drives upcoming.
We reached a milestone on July 25th ! Lindsay’s Voice and Trees of Hope WI are now officially recognized as a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt non-profit public charity. This opens doors to more opportunities to raise more money to make a difference in the lives of patients fighting blood cancers. Supporting less-toxic, more effective treatments.
